Welcome to the North American Traditional Indigenous Food System (“NATIFS”) website (“Site”). NATIFS addresses economic and health crises affecting Native communities through food-related enterprises (“Services”).  By using the Site or our Services, you consent to the collection and use of your Personal Information as described in this Privacy Policy. 

This Privacy Policy explains why we gather information from you, what information we collect, how we collect it, what we use the information for, and how to contact us about use of that information.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. When visiting our Site and using our Services that link to or reference this Policy, you agree to its terms. This Privacy Policy, along with our Terms of Use governs your use of our Site and Services.

Personal Information is usually your name in combination with another identifier, such as date of birth, postal address, email address, telephone number, or government-issued identification number. The specific definition of Personal Information often varies from one jurisdiction to another.

Personal Information We Collect

We collect Personal Information you provide to us when you contact us, join our mailing list, shop with us, donate, enter on our Site, or provide us information in any other way. Examples of the Personal Information we collect include: your e-mail address, name, address, phone number, transaction data and information you provide during a transaction, and any other information you may provide.

If you review our products or pose questions on our review sites or social media sites, we may collect your name, email address, and the content of any of your posts, as well as any other submissions. We reserve the right to remove such submissions.

We will not use the Personal Information we collected for materially different, unrelated, or incompatible purposes without providing you notice. 

We do not collect protected classifications characteristics under applicable privacy laws, such as biometric information or sensory data.

Personal Information of Children Under the Age of 13

Our Site and Services are not designed or targeted for children, and we does not knowingly collect, use or maintain information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with Personal Information, please contact us so that we may delete such information. We encourage parents and legal guardians to monitor their children’s internet usage and to help enforce our Privacy Policy by instructing their children never to provide Personal Information on our Site without their permission. If you learn that a child under the age of 13 has provided us with Personal Information in violation of this Privacy Policy, then you may alert us at [email protected] with “Privacy” in the subject line. We will take reasonable steps to delete that information as quickly as possible.

Device and Usage Information

We automatically gather information when you browse or view the Site and Services. This information may include your browser type (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge), your domain, the Internet Protocol (IP) address assigned to your computer (or the unique device ID of your mobile device, or other unique identifier), the date and time of your visits, the pages on the Site you visit, and other information related to your visit.

This information helps us better understand how individuals use our Site and Services and improve their experience. We also use cookies to help remember and process the items in a shopping cart and compile aggregate data about how individuals use the Services. We also use trusted third-party services to help us track or analyze this other information, such as Google Analytics.

Marketing

If you subscribe to our emails, we will collect your name and email address, so we can provide updates on NATIFS and the Indigenous Food Lab. We track when you click on a link in our emails to you. You may unsubscribe from these emails at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in them or by contacting us at [email protected] with “Privacy” in the subject line.

Pixels

We use tracking pixels on our website to gather information about you and your actions on our site, such as your IP address, web browser, page location, referrer site, button clicks and other information. You can manage your tracking pixel settings through your browser privacy settings.

Do Not Track

There are “do not track” restriction choices available for certain web browsers, however, at this time, our Site does not respond to “do not track” signals.

How We Use Personal Information

We use your Personal Information to administer your use of our Site, by communicating with you, responding to your requests, managing your account, customizing your service experience with us, and improving our Services.

How We Share Personal Information

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your Personal Information for monetary consideration. We may share your Personal Information with our service providers who may help us operate the Site, assist us in providing you with our Services, tailor our messaging to customers and prospects, or help us assess your interest or satisfaction with the Site or the Services. We require those providers not to disclose Personal Information and to use only it for the limited purposes we provided it.

Our employees and agents may view your Personal Information to perform their jobs and service your needs. We authorize their access to your Personal Information on a need-to-know basis to provide you with our products or services, or for one of the other reasons listed in this Privacy Policy. We may also share it within our entities, for the purposes of internal administration and back-office support, to ensure our network security, and to prevent fraud.

If another company acquires our company, business, or assets, that company will possess the Personal Information collected by us and will assume the rights and obligations regarding your Personal Information as described in this Privacy Policy. In the event of an insolvency, bankruptcy, or receivership, your Personal Information may also be transferred as a business asset.

We may release your Personal Information to others (including law enforcement) if we believe such release is reasonably necessary (i) to comply with a government or law enforcement request or judicial process; (ii) to operate this Site; (iii) to process any orders; (iv) to conduct any promotions, contests, or sweepstakes in which you participate; or (v) to protect the rights or property of the organization, its affiliates, users, customers, recipients, sponsors, providers, licensors, or Merchants.

In addition, we may share aggregate, non-individual information, incapable of identifying a particular person, to administer and improve the Site, analyze trends, track visitors’ use of the Site, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.

NATIFS may maintain the Personal Information it collects from you on computers located outside of your state or other government jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. We process data, including Personal Information, in the United States. We transfer Personal Information within the United States consistent with the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

We will not keep your Personal Information for any longer than is necessary for the purposes we collected it. To protect your Personal Information, we maintain a variety of security measures, including physical, electronic and administrative safeguards.

No system can be completely secure, so we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your Personal Information, searches, or other communications will always remain secure.

Privacy Rights

Right to access. You can request and receive a copy of the Personal Information we have collected, used, or otherwise processed and you can confirm what Personal Information has been collected.

Right to correct inaccuracies. You can request that we correct any inaccurate Personal Information we may have. 

Right to delete. You can request deletion of your Personal Information.

Right to opt-out. You can opt-out of targeted advertising, the sale of your Personal Information or limited sharing of your Personal Information.

Right to appeal. At times we may be unable to process requests relating to your Personal Information, in which case, your request will be denied. If your privacy rights request has previously been denied by us and you believe we denied it in error, you may appeal for reconsideration of your request via emailing [email protected].

Please note that we may need to authenticate your identity before your request can be processed. For authentication, you may be asked to provide certain passwords, personal information or other authenticating information. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf; however, we may seek proof of such authorization and you will still need to verify your identity directly with us before your request can be processed.

This Policy does not apply to third-party applications, products, services, websites or social media features that may be accessed through links that we provide on our websites and interfaces. Accessing those links may result in the collection of information about you by a third party. We do not control or endorse those third-party websites, or their privacy practices and you acknowledge that your relationship with that third party is independent of our own policies.
